Welcome to Colibrí Therapy & Training, where we offer inclusive and culturally-responsive therapeutic services. I am thrilled you're here and excited to collaborate with you in creating a safe and supportive space for your healing and growth.

Colibrí Therapy & Training (CTT) is a practice born out of love and struggle, grounded on three interwoven principles:

Connection. Authenticity. Harmony.

We believe that to better connect with others, there is great value in deepening your connection with yourself. However, in the face of life’s challenges and ever-changing circumstances, it can be difficult to remain open-hearted. We are often pulled in a thousand directions and it is exhausting. At CTT, we believe that authentic connection allows for healing, creativity, and joy. We also embrace the idea of striving for harmony rather than seeking balance. Harmony involves aligning different, sometimes opposing forces in a complementary way, which is much more peaceful than the traditional balancing act we are all so used to doing. At CTT, we are committed to supporting clients as they seek healing and peace through harmony and authentic connection.

Couples Therapy for Expecting and New Parents

Becoming a parent is a significant life change that can bring new challenges and stressors to a relationship. New and expecting parents may have different expectations of what parenthood should look like. The demands of parenthood, combined with the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy and postpartum, can be stressful for new and expecting parents. Couples can be left feeling disconnected and out of sync, leaving partners frustrated and lonely.

When partners come from different cultural backgrounds, they may face unique communication or differing values and expectations. Multicultural couples may also face stressors related to discrimination and cultural identity. These differences and stressors can sometimes lead to misunderstanding and conflict within the relationship.

Therapy for Immigrants and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color

Having a protected space where Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and immigrant individuals can show up fully without needing to code-switch or fully mask can be powerful and liberating. BIPOC and immigrant communities living in the US have often experienced trauma related to systemic racism, discrimination, and other forms of oppression. BIPOC and immigrant individuals may also struggle with questions of cultural identity and how to reconcile their cultural heritage with the majority culture. Exploring their experiences through a lens that honors their identities, background, and culture may offer clients a new perspective and path forward.

Online Therapy

Online therapy, also known as teletherapy, has become increasingly popular in recent years due to the convenience and accessibility it provides. Technology has made it easy to co-create the space needed for effective therapy. Clients who have a busy schedule, limited access to transportation, mobility limitations, or limited options for therapists in the area may consider online therapy. Teletherapy can help address these access challenges since clients are able to connect with their therapist at a time and location that is most convenient for them using a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Therapy in Spanish

Language is closely tied to a person’s identity, sense of self, and cultural background. For Spanish-speaking individuals, therapy in Spanish (or Spanglish) may provide a greater sense of ease and comfort in communicating their thoughts and feelings. Clients may also feel more understood and validated in therapy when their therapist speaks their preferred language and has a deeper understanding of their cultural background. Therapy in Spanish may also help clients maintain a strong connection to their heritage and address cultural issues that may arise in therapy.

CTT is committed to equity and inclusion. Members of all marginalized communities are welcomed, supported, and uplifted. This is an anti-racist, LGBTQI+ affirming, and neurodivergence affirming practice committed to addressing social justice issues and dismantling oppressive structures, ideologies and narratives that hinder our growth and liberation.
